Most place names in English take no article at all. We say France, London and Asia, not "the France" or "the London". The name is treated as a label, and labels do not need a determiner.

The appears when the name describes a group, a plural or a physical feature. The Netherlands and the Philippines carry plural names. The Nile and the Alps name a specific river or range. The United Kingdom contains an adjective that turns the name into a described thing.

This page groups the rules by place type, because there is no single rule that covers every name. The 20-question drill checks the common patterns, and each answer explains why the article is there or absent.
